Abstract

Mathematics is a subject taught at every level of education in Indonesia, starting from Elementary School (SD) to High School (SMA). Mathematics is a science that underlies the development of modern technology, has an important role in various disciplines and advances human thought (Depdiknas, 2006: 390). Based on the background of the problem above, the problem formulation in this study is whether the use of the Problem Based Instruction (PBI) learning model can improve problem solving abilities in mathematics lessons Comparative Material (Ratio) in Class VII D SMP Negeri 2 Jamblang, Cirebon Regency Academic Year 2021/2022? The purpose of this Classroom Action Research: The purpose of this research is to improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities through the Problem Based Instruction (PBI) learning model in order to improve mathematics learning in Class VII D of SMP Negeri 2 Jamblang, Cirebon Regency. The research was conducted in Class VII D of SMP Negeri 2 Jamblang, Cirebon Regency, starting with Mathematics Learning with Problem Based Instruction (PBI) on Thursday 10 March 2022 for Cycle I and 17 March 2022 for Cycle II. The results of the research and discussion on the application of Problem Based Instruction (PBI) in Mathematics Learning on the material "Comparison (Ratio)" in Class VII D of SMP Negeri 2 Jamblang Cirebon Regency in cycles I and II can be concluded, 1)  Student learning activities have increased, as in, Students Listening to learning material looks serious; Students Listening to material through the media look serious and concentrate; Students Interaction between students and groups looks active and discusses worksheets; Students who asked questions and answered the problems raised by the teacher increased considerably; The courage of students in expressing opinions was carried out by each group enthusiastically. 2) Student learning outcomes both individually and in groups have increased in each cycle, Preliminary results show an average score: 59.06. The results in the first cycle increased to an average score of 73.28. The results in cycle II rose to an average score of: 87.15. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that the action hypothesis is proven, namely the application of Problem Based Instruction (PBI) can improve the learning outcomes of Class VII D students of SMP Negeri 2 Jamblang, Cirebon Regency in Mathematics.
